Rider University seeks a Coordinator for event and emergency management in the Department of Public Safety at our Lawrenceville campus.

The Coordinator is responsible for addressing security concerns and coordinating action plans and security/police coverage, as needed, for major events on both campuses in collaboration with departments throughout the University, The Coordinator performs the functions of the operation section commander or safety officer within the Department’s incident command system (ICS) during emergency situations, assists the Director with emergency response planning, and ensures a fire safe environment for students, faculty, and staff on both campuses through fire prevention awareness and education. The Coordinator is also responsible for overseeing the Department’s operating budget, communication systems (i.e. radio, fire alarm), surveillance cameras, vehicles and related equipment.
Successful candidates must have an Associate’s degree or equivalent in Safety or related field plus 5 years experience with event coordination (to include security needs), emergency management and fire safety. Completion of ICS 100, 200, and 700 levels, as a minimum, is required. Additionally, candidates must possess excellent interpersonal skills, have experience conducting fire safety and/or other related safety programs, and demonstrate the ability to remain calm under pressure and take command during emergencies and other situations.
Candidates must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license and be willing and able to work voluntary and involuntary overtime, including nights and weekends. Police or security experience, basic knowledge of hazardous chemicals, and current certification as a New Jersey Fire Official or Fire Inspector are desired.
